New website development Tasmania
Many people have asked how we came to this new lifestyle in Tasmania. With many positive experiences to draw from, we want to support others with information about the process. House-sitting and Tasmanian relocation seem to be of great interest, and we can now share stories from this new venture with our Tasmanian web design. If you want the details, keep reading!
Writing Tasmania news
Tania writes the articles and manages the photos. If you want the extended version, read on...
Born the second of three daughters to Victorian farming couple Malcolm & Irene, Tania had a standard, happy childhood. She was a well-behaved student (it's true!) and had a nice group of friends at school. The local netball club received a dominant percentage of the family's focus during winter, and in summer, there was tennis. Netball has now been abandoned, but tennis is still an ongoing passion.
Tania completed her schooling in the township of Kaniva, finished Year 12 with okay results (but nothing outstanding) and chose to defer university studies for a year to earn some pocket money. Well that year has now extended into 24 years, and she settled instead for a work history that involved mainly administration with a few slight deviations thrown in. Meeting Gavin at work more than twenty years ago, they married and moved to Melbourne for a brief stint, before returning to live in Bordertown, South Australia.
There they stayed, receiving the blessing of two beautiful sons along the way, born in close succession - surprise! Then with the usual busy schedule of parents, trying to squeeze in work and school commitments, a few sporting obligations and the odd family or social gathering, life started to become very plain. Throw in some health problems and bingo - there's a big rut and your life is smack down the bottom of it.
Well, enter a big, self-made exciting chapter, caution thrown to the wind. Tania, Gavin and the boys drove off for a look-see around Australia, travelled through the Tasmanian state and fell in love with the idea of a fresh start in a gorgeous place. So against all rationale, they packed up their meagre belongings and arrived at paradise with a renewed enthusiasm for enjoying life. Obviously some problems also went along for the ride, and some niceties from the home comfort zone got left behind. But you get that.
Now, in her forties, Tania has started to consider a few options that previously had only been pipe dreams. She has always loved to write, finding it the easiest form of communication. Reading, researching and discovering new ideas for a website about something as fabulous as Tasmania make her keen to go to work each day. And the thought of giving someone a giggle at her expense, of providing a service without direct reward, and doing it all while making the most of her privileged position as Mum to her boys - what could be better than that?

Gavin engineers the technical website construction bit. Here's his story outline...
Parents John & Pauline raised two sons and a daughter, Gavin being their second child. They had a close relationship with their extended family, the kids spending lots of time with their cousins while growing up. Since then, Gavin has always enjoyed social gatherings, and developed a big network of associates through club involvement. School was attended at Bordertown, and luckily Gavin completed the work with ease, as most of his emphasis was placed on football, cricket, swimming and water-skiing.
Gavin began his working career as a bank teller in Adelaide, but soon returned to his home town and commenced employment in accounting. When first married, he was relocated to Melbourne, where he studied computer programming, part time in the evenings, while working full time during the day. This established a long-term habit of working all hours on computer applications, and possibly led to the unhealthy and solitary routine Gavin had developed before the move interstate.
Although still entrenched in the computer business, hopefully a new location will empower Gavin to implement some balance and perspective and give him the motivation to pursue some of his dreams, too. With natural artistic flair, regret that he did not attend university and an obvious passion for sport, there has to be some way to align the Tasmanian stars and create a better outlook.
Tasmanian Tourism test drive
The kids regulate the whole shebang. How? Well...
Tania & Gavin don't do anything without the ultimate benefit of their offspring in mind. Although initially hesitant to leave their friends and family in Bordertown, the boys are ecstatic about the whole Tasmanian experiment. They love their new school and now realise they are resilient and resourceful and adaptable. After some time on the road with just the immediate family, they appreciate time and space to themselves, and enjoy even more the company of their peers - new and old.
Their stint with home-schooling opened fresh eyes to the learning benefits of travel - culture, history, arts, environment, geography and no doubt the financial balancing act (we'll put that one down to accounting). Tania's spell as teacher/supervisor was a great trial for both generations, as was the action of house sitting for other families. The care of someone's pets and treasures has developed a sense of appreciation for helping others and simply for doing the right thing.
Always a fantastic dad, Gavin and the boys now enjoy their time together even more - surrounded by sporting activities with lots of beach fun. The whole family loves to experience new places and take advantage of the opportunities that abound. Always keen to assist in research and development for the Tasmanian website, the boys volunteer for attraction investigation, love to travel to new places and discover unique animals.
Without leaping into the alien world of a major city, this family decided to expand their horizon to encompass a wider variety of amenities with a spectacular backdrop of Tasmanian tourism thrown in. And much as they all loved the safety and ease of their small rural community - home - it's great to be able to challenge the boundaries and know they'll not only survive, but maybe even flourish. Now all that's left is to write the story and take the photos for think-tasmania.com.

Others that help (with or without their realisation). Acknowledging them here...
Firstly, Tania & Gavin would both like to thank everyone who offered support during times of poor health. Without back-up and understanding, they might still be floundering aimlessly in their old lives, instead of stepping up to the plate for a crack at something special. Some people have a capacity to take on more than just their own everyday dramas, thankfully. You know who you are.
Next up, Tania has been overwhelmed by the encouragement received to write. It's nice to know people appreciate the periodical updates - may she finally be brave enough to let people actually read what she scribes.
Thanks should also be extended to Tennis Tasmania, for the invitation to join their numbers. Some people don't need an excuse to jump, but for others, a gentle push is required.
Dan Fellow, Tasmanian Photo Guy
Now an individual mention for Dan Fellow, the Tasmanian Photo Guy. Dan has been extremely generous and helpful with his advice in the photography department. Tania tries to use her own snapshots where possible, but when compared to Dan's professional versions... well, there's just no comparison, really.
So there you have it.
