About
The Island of Tasmania… what can you say?
When it comes to the island of Tasmania… actually, there’s plenty to say! The pure natural beauty of the island state of Australia can render you speechless, we know. But here at Think Tasmania, the writers are on a mission to share the adventure and inspiration of all things Tasmanian!

Why do we write about the Island of Tasmania?
We present articles about Australia’s island (Tasmania) in order to showcase some of the magnetism of this generous and vibrant state. There’s…
- the quaint and quirky, things unique to Tassie
- really old, really new and everything in between
- natural, industrial, agricultural and aqua-cultural
- birds, bees and nocturnal eyes in the bush
- fresh, healthy, tasty and decadent produce
- world-famous superstars and private artisans
- places to swim, run, paddle, hike, throw, ride…
- town after nearby town with surprises and charm
What does the Island of Tasmania mean to us?
The benefits we receive from living locally are boundless and we get to share some of them here. But despite our obvious bias towards all things Tasmanian, we always give an honest account. If we don’t like it – we’ll say so. We don’t want you getting angry with us! When we say “unforgettable experience” it should be the holiday of your dreams. (Not a delusion or even a nightmare!)
One indisputable fact is that our photographers have the dream gig. With such a ready-made supply of picturesque material, they can’t go wrong. You will find galleries to showcase their talents and also photos to highlight the gist of our reports. What’s that saying about pictures and a thousand words…?
Whatever the saying, that’s the story of think-tasmania.com. We’re here to promote the island of Tasmania as a great place to visit or live, and to provide information about everything distinctly Tasmanian. Go on, you can read it!!
The Think Tasmania team…
Tania
Born and raised in Victoria, Australia but now settled in Tasmania, Tania is finally living her dream life. With her husband and two young sons, and a fantastic environment in which to work, the launch of think-tasmania.com has aligned all the stars. Tania has worked for many years in office administration, tourism & hospitality, but her passion has always been for the written word. Having done copious amounts of study (travel writing, creative writing, comprehensive writing) she has done all the research and is committed to her own small business venture… this Tasmanian website.
For recreation, Tania loves to read, enjoys music, movies, photography and exploring all that Tasmania has to offer. She strives to keep her family healthy and happy. And absolutely loves running her own business! Read more about the business.
Gavin
Self-employed in system design, software development and ICT for 15 years, Gavin is the stereo-typical computer geek! He uses his technical expertise for Think Tasmania, and is responsible for all the work that keeps the website operational. Outside of work, Gavin spends his time volunteering for junior tennis commitments and enjoys beach activities like kayaking.
Dan
Dan Fellow is the man for professional photography at Think Tasmania. Although Tania likes to dabble in her own creative snapshots, when it comes to the real deal, there’s little comparison. He has his own website and is the producer of Desktop Tasmania, a stunning collection of over 2000 high resolution digital photos on CD Rom depicting the many wonders of Australia’s island state.
Mike
Mike Fry brings a repertoire including photojournalism; a writing port-folio of published works and an enormous amount of knowledge about the Tasmanian tourism industry. His specialty is stories of interest about the Western Wilderness region. Mike, with his partner Carolyn, own Ormiston House, a heritage B&B in Strahan, Tasmania.
Roger
Roger Findlay loves to spend his holidays touring the island of Tasmania. He and his wife Jeanette are hobby farmers from the mainland who are looking forward to retiring to the Apple Isle. Roger will be revealing the inside story: what you can expect when you travel to Tassie. His special interest is gourmet produce… so we think he’s come to the right place!
Gina
Gina Scott is a fifth generation local, living in the north east corner of the state. Gina has worked tirelessly for the tourism industry, and continues her contribution in her local Bridport region. She and husband Tony own Platypus Park Country Retreat, their slice of paradise in Tasmania. We are lucky to have another great contributor joining the team at Think Tasmania.
Michelle
Michelle Kneipp-Pegler has made the tree-change, escaping the heat and humidity of Queensland to start a dream new life in Gunns Plains Tasmania. With husband John, Michelle owns a farm stocked with rare breeds of pigs, geese and chooks. She spends her time gardening, playing music and writing her Leven River Farm blog. And she is particularly good at sharing Tasmanian experiences with her network.
Guest Authors
Sometimes we publish articles written by guests of Think Tasmania. The stories will still be relevant to the website, and naturally we approve the content before publication. There’s detailed information for guest authors on the website. Contact Think Tasmania if you’d like to have your work considered.

Thanks Kylie! Opossum Bay is a lovely little town. Great squid fishing from the jetty. You can read more about the area in our article.
Hi There,
What a terrific website. I am part of the designed;made market on Sunday and was curious how your website works. I belong to a group called Stitching & Beyond, we have a biennial exhibition called “Out of Hand” which is on this weekend at the Rosny Barn. I’d be happy to give you further information if you’re interested. Cheers, Mahdi
Hi Mahdi
Thanks for your kind words! Your exhibition sounds very interesting. Here’s a few snippets about the way Think Tasmania works…
